Product Description
Whistler's Pro-Series Line! Can Whistler improve for 2009? YES! Our new SE versions of our high performance units include a feature called "Ka Max" mode. This feature improves on our already impressive Ka perfromance. All the SE models include our popular features - Radar Signal ID (RSID) and Laser Signal ID (LSID).
Amazon.com Product Description
Whistler's XTR-695 is a detector that maximizes sensitivity and minimizes falsing. Ka Max Mode gives you improved Ka Band sensitivity. Radar Signature ID displays known Ka gun frequencies to help distinguish threats, and Laser Signature ID does the same by displaying pulses per second of received laser signals. Take advantage of 360-degree coverage for all radar and laser bands, Whistler's patented POP-mode detection, and a wealth of bonus features like a 72-point digital compass and vehicle battery voltmeter.

7 Color Backlit LCD Text Display
The XTR-695's brilliant text display provides distinct visual confirmation of signals detected, signal strength, and indicates engaged modes of operation. You can choose from 7 different display colors for a bit of personalization, even assigning a different color for each band, or scrolling colors.

Filter Mode
There are times when a radar detector can emit the same frequency as police radar and can cause your detector to falsely alarm. Sometimes a detector can display a signal when picking up another radar detector in vehicle close by. The Whistler Filter Mode checks the signal to verify if it's a legitimate police radar or a false alert from another detector.

Auto Dim Mode
The Auto Dim feature automatically switches the illumination of the text display between the bright and dim settings according to varying light conditions so that the text display will always be easy to read.

INTELLICORD Ready
Add the Whistler INTELLICORD and you'll be able to remotely control the radar detector in settings such as power on/off, city modes, dim/dark and quiet/auto quiet with a simple press of a button.

Real Voice Alerts

Real Voice provides added information to the detected signal over and above the simple band ID tones from internal speaker. Click to enlarge.

7 different display colors. Click to enlarge.

Real Voice provides added information to the detected signal over and above the simple band ID tones. The unit says "X band" when it detects an X band signal. This allows you to keep your eyes on-the-road. Real Voice is also used to articulate Safety Warning System messages and feature selections. Real Voice will be used to articulate the following:

  • Band Identification
  • Safety Warning System messages
  • Feature Selection

Low Profile Alert Periscopes
Whistler's Low Profile Alert Periscopes provide an added attention getting visual alert. The two extra LEDs flash on and off when the unit alarms to provide a unique visual alert.

3 City Modes/Highway Mode
Highway mode provides full audio and visual warning of laser/radar systems while maintaining full sensitivity. Highway mode is the default setting of all Whistler's laser/radar detectors. City mode helps reduce the annoyance of automatic door openers and burglar alarm alerts by providing an initial alert (same distance as Highway Mode) then remaining quiet unless the signal strength becomes very strong. When the signal increases the unit will alert briefly to notify you of the change in signal strength.

Stay Alert
The Stay Alert feature is designed to test a driver's alertness. Within 30 to 60 seconds after the feature is engaged an alert is sounded; to show alertness, the driver must press the volume, city or the mute button within 3-5 seconds. If a button is pressed within 3-5 seconds, the cycle is repeated. If a button was not pressed within 3-5 seconds the unit alarms at full volume and the display shows an unique visual alert.

Quiet/Auto Quiet Modes
Pressing QUIET before a signal is detected engages Auto Quiet Mode, which automatically reduces the audio level after the initial warning to a low audio level setting. Pressing QUIET during a radar/laser encounter silences audio alerts, while allowing visual alerts to keep you informed.

Alert Priority
When two or more signals are received at the same time, the alert priority is: Laser, VG-2, Speed Radar, Safety Radar.

Example: If X band is alerting, then suddenly a VG-2 signal is detected, the VG-2 warning will override the X band alert.

Vehicle Battery Saver Mode
The Vehicle Battery Saver Mode automatically shuts off your detector within 3 hours if you forget to turn it off. The timer is reset if the detector is turned off, unplugged or any button is pressed before the 6 hours have expired. The detector will alert you with an audible and visual warning before it shuts off.

Safety Warning System--SWS
This relatively new radar is not for speed detection at all, it is used to keep you informed of highway safety. Transmitters are installed and programmed (for example: in emergency vehicles) to make you aware of possible situations that may require your attention, such as: ambulance vehicles that are moving or stationary, road hazards ahead, road construction delays or detours, etc.

Summary: Great Fuzzbuster 2010-03-07
Comment: I was looking at the Bell's but when I seen all the extra features the Whistler has and it was $60 cheaper, it was a no brainer. Sine receiving the Whistler I have not been disappointed in it's performance. It's a great fuzz-buster!

Summary: XTR-695 review 2010-03-01
Comment: Since I bought my XTR695, it has helped me stay aware of my speeds and given me plenty of time to make necessary adjustments. I had a radar hit me in one of these small hick towns here in SC where all the cops do is try to get you for going 2 miles over the limit to ticket you and my detector gave me plenty of time of warning. I set my cruise control and didn't give a cop a reason to pull me over. I'm still playing with my detector which probably has more features than I know what to do with, but its a great investment. I've gotten warnings from areas when I didn't even see a cop, but right around the corner or bend, there he is sitting in the cut some where waiting. I have very few issues with false alarms, I keep it on Highway where ever I go, I rather have it go off when I ride by a CVS or Walgreens store with automatic door openers than be sorry. As long as this unit is working, I don't see myself getting another ticket no time soon. I would recommend this unit if you want that extra amount of security when leaving your drive way. It has saved me on quite a few occasions that normally would have had the cop beading down on me. This radar also picks up signals from behind well too.

Summary: Great, and a good deal more! 2010-02-17
Comment: After 3 years with a marginal Cobra, I went for the XTR-695 and could not be happier. First day it saved me on
I-85 in NC between Charlotte and Greensboro. It has options galore, Amazon has a great price, and it saves your butt.
Buy it. Use it. Save $$. Case closed.

Summary: Overall pretty good 2010-01-28
Comment: [Update] this seems to work better than i thought so far. the other day i was on a straight country route with probably a good 40' drop and it picked up a state trooper facing the other way from half a mile away. i was pretty amazed seeing how it was still on "City" mode not "Highway". then today it picked up a sheriff about a quarter of a mile away with a bend in the road. twice it missed a state trooper, but i think they may have been using pulse. occasionally i do get false alarms but with the option to block bands (such as X) it really helps.

well the xtr-695 works pretty good, usually it will notify of a radar detection with ample time to respond. it also does a good job of picking up signals behind the car also. although today there was something wrong with it and it only picked up a ka band of a trooper from 30' away and miss matched k band with x, which has never happened before. it ended up fixing its self by the end of the day. overall the detector looks very elegant, and has no reflection on the window. the display works good at night, and not so good during the day. if your eyesight is good, then you'll be fine seeing the display during the day. the periscopes are a nice way of notifying an alert and the color changing background also makes it nice to match it to the dashboard lights. overall i give it an 8 out of 10

Summary: Returned 2010-01-25
Comment: I tried this out for a few weeks before returning it. Here are a list of pros and cons I found in that ammount of time-

Pros-
-A lot of features for it's price
-If you need a compass Whistler is the only (I think) company to offer that
-The flashing LED's on top were nice to get your attention if your music is turned up to loud.
-3 year warrenty

Cons-
-LOTS of false alarms. And it wasn't just in the city, out in the country with no other cars around it would go off. And it wasn't just like a low level beep, it was a full bar (9 I think?). This happened A LOT and there is no reason at all that it should have.
-The display is garbage, during the day no matter what color you choose your going to have a hard time reading it. At night it was fine, but it would be hard not to be.
-It had a very cheap, empty feel to it.
-The one night I left it in my car (it was around 10 deg.) it took about 10-20sec before I could read the display. I've used other detectors with just the red light display and never had this problem.
-Very poor detection, I went past TONS of cops during the few weeks I had it, and it only went off for 2. Now there is no way of knowing if they had their radar on or not, but I would think more then 2 out of 20+ did. The one it was a straight road and I saw the cop before it started going off, and this was a city cop (they leave their radar on 24/7 in my town). With my old detector I would pick up their signal from all the way across town.

I know the reviews on this radar are very good, but I had no luck with mine. I sent it in and now have a Escort C65 on its way, but if you are in the market for a detector around this ($140) price, go with the Bel V955. Much higher quality, and a better detector all around.
