First off, I'm coming from an older version of radar detector. I upgraded because I recently got an expensive ticket and thought maybe my device just needed some updating.

I did my research and looked for the best based on what I can afford. I am aware of the high end models but they are out of my budget and so they are out of the question. I closed in on this one after I set my price limit and checked for features.

First, feature-wise, this is the most feature-rich detector I found that is below $60. I won't repeat the specs as you can google them anytime. But the feature(s) that stood out the most that helped me decide on this one was the screen display and the voice-alert.

Now, for the test... I drove 2 hours through winding and hilly freeway, then back. Total drive time was 4 hours. For those familiar in Northern Cal, it was from Sacramento to South Lake Tahoe using Highway 50 then back. A perfect test to separate good detectors from...Read more

Whistler has always come up with outstanding radar detectors at affordable prices.
This unit is not an exception. It has many features that are really nice such as voice, compass, city settings, and many other settings.
Setup was easy,but you have to perform a driving circle to calibrate the compass. Only weird thing to do,but afterwards works just fine!
Also has pretty good range on detection too. I would recommend this unit as one you really can depend on.

though it was refurbished, it appeared brand new at 30% of the regular retail. great deal.
