Remote Installation The Pro-3450 features remotely installed detection modules routed to the control panel within the vehicle:
- Radar Antenna--Compact, high-efficiency antenna receives radar signals.
- Laser Module--High gain optical lens provides increased sensitivity and field of view for leading-edge laser detection.
In addition, you'll get outdoor temperature (handy to know when you need to watch for ice) and battery voltage displays.
Patented POP Mode Detection There are new guns out there that operate just like the instant-on guns of the past but with a very tough new twist--POP mode! This new gun is a normal K and Ka band radar gun detectable by most radar detectors made in the past 30 years until it's in POP mode. When the gun is in POP Mode and activated, a brief burst of energy, less than 1/15 of a second, is transmitted and the vehicle's speed is quickly acquired. A detector without POP Mode detection capability cannot respond to this brief transmission. All PRO Series have POP mode detection capabilities.
Stay Alert The Stay Alert feature is designed to test a driver's alertness. Within 30 to 60 seconds after the feature is engaged an alert is sounded; to show alertness, the driver must press the volume, city or the mute button within 3-5 seconds. If a button is pressed within 3-5 seconds, the cycle is repeated. If a button was not pressed within 3-5 seconds the unit alarms at full volume and the display shows an unique visual alert.
3 City Modes/Highway Mode Highway mode provides full audio and visual warning of laser/radar systems while maintaining full sensitivity. Highway mode is the default setting of all Whistler's laser/radar detectors. City mode helps reduce the annoyance of automatic door openers and burglar alarm alerts by providing an initial alert (same distance as Highway Mode) then remaining quiet unless the signal strength becomes very strong. When the signal increases the unit will alert briefly to notify you of the change in signal strength.
Quiet/Auto Quiet Modes Pressing QUIET before a signal is detected engages Auto Quiet Mode, which automatically reduces the audio level after the initial warning to a low audio level setting. Pressing QUIET during a radar/laser encounter silences audio alerts, while allowing visual alerts to keep you informed.

This unit works great if your primary concern is a hidden system.There are other conventional units that outperform it of course. I like the outside temp sensor and am using it to monitor my intake air temp.I also added a second laser detector so I have them front & rear but am disappointed I can't add a radar antenna to the rear like the old model.

I just upgraded to another BMW and of course bought me another Whistler Pro3450. Having it installed in the same place as the others, the receiver right below the license plate. The indicator will be to the left of the steering column right over the parking brake release. Can't see it from either door, so just a push of a button and it stays silent in case you need it to be. Other detectors claim 3 - 5 mile detection. Who cares, I want to have good detection within a 1/2 mile on the freeway and a 1/4 mile for city driving, that's when it's most important.
The Whistler is a solid unit that lasts for a long time. I have mine set in City 2 mode and that works best for false alarms. I'm not a speedy driver, but some times you are over the limit and it's nice to have a detector that will let you know of a spreed trap. This is my 3rd unit and I'm picky what I buy. If you want a reliable radar detector that does not sit on your dashboard or stick to your windshield and does not cost an arm and a leg, this is it. You need to be a little bit handy to install it. It is your basic remote detector, but gets the job done. I have used this product as well as other Whistler products for many years with no complaints.
