Amazon.com Review
The Uniden LRD 6275SWSI is designed to be an all-in-one laser/radar detector at an incredibly low price. Plus, it's easy to install with Velcro tabs for dash mounting, suction cups for windshield mounting, a cigarette lighter adapter with a coiled cord, and an extra fuse.

Installing and configuring the detector took less than five minutes, as there are only a few buttons on the top. There's a highway/city mode button on the left, a button that toggles audio and audiovisual alarms in the center, and a mute button on the right. The display uses simple LEDs that indicate what radar band it has detected and to depict the signal strength. These alerts are accompanied by distinct audio alarms that, after a little familiarization, told us what type of signal was hitting us without our looking at the display.

The device worked best in city mode, where its sensitivity is reduced. False alarms were infrequent, although we did notice that the detection range was much less than more expensive units we've tested. Police cars and stationary radars were usually less than one city block away when the detector's alarm sounded, and we certainly would have been caught had we been speeding.

In highway mode we saw opposite results. The LRD 6275SWS chirped every few seconds, whether we were in the middle of town or the middle of a cornfield. Also, the reported signals were of varying strength, so we were rarely able to distinguish a false alarm from a real threat. The LRD 6275SWS did detect police radar, but was also by seemingly triggered by many other radar and infrared sources as we drove by. Overall, this model didn't perform well enough in our tests to garner a recommendation. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Inexpensive
  • Easy to install and configure
  • All-band radar detection plus laser detection
Cons:
  • Too many false alarms in highway mode
  • Small detection range in city mode
  • LED lights can't be dimmed as LCD lights can

4.0 out of 5 stars Out performs my old Passport!!!, September 4, 1999

I like the way the Uniden LRD6275SWS picks up radar from the rear of my car. My Passport that I replaced did not have this capability. The only drawback that I can see in the short time that I've had the Uniden is the lights for the radar bands,SWS,and VG2 are hard to distinguish from each other. Overall I'd recommend this detector to anyone that is on a budget and didn't want to spend in excess of $150.00 to get the digital display's.

3.0 out of 5 stars good back, poor front, to many false alarms, February 29, 2000

Well, I use my model in Poland(Europe) and:

1) it warns 3 of 3 at the top almost every hill of the highway wherever any cellural antenna propagate the mobile phone signal. No police insight.

2) when passing by the police radar station it warns only 2 of 3 from the front (even face to face with the radar! ).

3) it warns excellent (3 of 3) from the rear, even far away AFTER the police.

The conclusion - place it back to the front to get better detection.

I used very old uniden radar previously and it was much better than the current one. But maybe in future (I use it for just a week) something will improve. Today - tragedy.
