Escort SmartCord Live - iPhone Version (0010038-1)

This is a great idea that just didn't have a great execution. The main problem is that it is "app-based" instead of having the technology built into the power cord itself.

Here are the problems: I was able to set it up and get it working fine after a long weekend wait and some password issues. (Escort should realize that it needs to have 7 day a week support for their products. People don't want to be unprotected for 3 days while waiting for the weekend to end especially after having paid the kind of money we do for Escort products).

Because the unit is app-based, anytime you have to do something else on your phone - the app closes and you lose the benefit of the device! So if you receive a call while driving - the Bluetooth connection is broken and you don't get notified be another Escort Live driver if they were to "see" an alert. I think a number of people are being a little too hard on this product right now (Dec 2011), so I'm going to be a little more generous with the stars.

I'm using the Escort RedLine with Escort Live which gives me the the Defender Database GPS feature of the 9500ix and the extra range of the RedLine at the same time. So with the RedLine, Live gives you significantly more value at little extra cost than it does with the 9500ix which it is somewhat redundant with.

Yes, the complexity of dealing with it is less than ideal at the current time, but if you're the "early adopter" gadget nut type then you'll have no problem with it especially if you dock your iPhone to a power connector in the car all the time anyway for use as an audio player.

I bought this Smartcord Live-Iphone version, I call to make sure it was compatible with my detector, very friendly and helpful, received and install app in my phone with no issues, when i connected with my radar escort xm85, it automatic update and start working all togheter, it have very nice features, only con is when receive a call it disconnect from the iphone which customer service told me so i was not surprised when that happen and also instead of being free to used like other apps, i can only use it for 1yr subscription which is included with the purchased after that i think they say its 19.99 for another year. I wish they fix that....
