The Cobra XRS 9770 15 Band Radar/Laser Detector with DigiView data display provides easily recognizable digital text on the display panel. This unit also has the innovative Voice Alert function, and it now comes in an ultra compact design with an improved range for high performance with refined style. I bought this radar detector less than a month ago as a replacement for the Cobra R9G that I fried when trying to connect using hard wire (don't ask me why the fuse didn't protect it)

Below are the pros and cons from the less than a month time that I used this radar detector:

Pros:
- Compact and slick design, looks great!
- Great range, it warned me about a mile away on highways and way before I even saw the cops.
- Easy to hear sound and easy to read display.
- Good holding suction cups.

Cons:
- Lots of false alerts: Even in City mode, I tries all kinds of different combinations and nothing seemed to stop the false alerts.
- Unit overheats: I noticed that the unit gets really hot while using, not sure if that will shorten the life or not.
- Compass seems to loose focus sometimes, even after calibrating.
- IntelliMute feature didn't seem to hear my Honda Accord engine rev! As it was in mute the whole time I had...Read more

This radar detector is working well for me. I do get a few false positives - always level 1 K at almost every large strip mall - hmm - maybe some security radio telecom? It correctly and quickly alerted on several known highway traps and impromptu radar setups in my area. I haven't run across any instant-on or laser speed detectors, yet, so I can't comment about that part of this unit. Or maybe I have and don't know it... It did manage to scare the heck out of me when it alerted on an emergency vehicle's signal strobe while I was sitting at a stop light. I think that one overrides the volume setting - it certainly got my attention!

I also like the add-on features. The compass works for me and comes in quite handy - I have a rather poor sense of direction - even with the Rocky Mountains sticking up prominently to the west., On the other hand, my 12 VDC at the cigarette lighter (uh... the utility power socket) must be too well filtered for the detector to be able to...Read more

I ordered this as a replacement for my last Cobra radar detector. Still the same great quality. Only thing they could do to make it better is provide a kit to hardwire rather than the coil cord.
