I have been very pleased with this radar detector. I was worried after I bought it because of some of the reviews I had seen online but in my experience this detector works as advertised by Bel and it was much cheaper than it's sister the Escort Redline. I have the previous STI and this detector has given me quicker alerts esp on Ka and K band than the older model. I don't know if the Redline is better but this detector has been great for me. I use it in a ZO6 Corvette and a Jaguar super v8 and haven't been pulled over yet.

I bought this recently to replace my old 955 and RX65. The RX65 was the best radar for me. The protection range was so long. Several times on highways, the RX65 detected the Ka band and it was right ALL THE TIME and the distance from my car to the police car were amazing far.
STI does pickup Ka band but it happens twice now that the police cars were in front of me merely less than half mile. This morning, the police car was so close. Perhaps the policeman just turned on the radar, but perhaps not. I really don't like the protection range of 955 and it seems the STI is about the same.
I miss the RX65.

I didn't get my Magnum STI from Amazon like the Whistler-695 I had before it - Amazon is out of stock for 4 weeks as of right now (3/2012). But I have taken Magnum to test to the same places where I've been using my old unit that served me very well for 3 years. It is very surprising but the performance of them was somewhat very close. Ka band, local police car about 700 yards away (the car seats there all the time) - Bel Magnum comes on about 100 yards earlier than Whistler. Sure, it gives me more time to react but the prices of radars compare about 1 to 3 and Whistler still warns me well enough before the policeman can see me. To make it simple, you are not getting 300% more performance with Magnum when you pay 300% more. I'd say it is about 15%-20% more sensitive than compared to a much cheaper unit I had before. There are videos on YouTube when people spot highway police cars 8 miles away with Magnum or Redline (its twin brother), but in real life you don't need a radar detector...Read more
